A native Houstonian, cellist Andrew Cavazos has performed in Austria, China, Italy, Puerto Rico, and across the United States. Mr. Cavazos has appeared as a soloist with the Houston Heights and Conroe Symphony Orchestras, and has performed on Houston Public Media's "Music in the Making" as well as Houston Public Radio's "The Front Row." He has performed with members of the Chicago, Houston, and Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestras, and formerly served as the principal cellist of the Cypress Philharmonic and Houston Heights Orchestra. He has appeared as a guest artist at the University of St. Thomas, as well as Sam Houston State and Houston Baptist Universities.

 

Mr. Cavazos received his MM from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston, studying with Anthony Kitai, and BM from Sam Houston State University, studying with Daniel Saenz. He has performed in master classes given by Mischa Maisky, Brinton Averil Smith, Desmond Hoebig, Alexander Rudin, Suren Bagratuni, Mike Block, Carter Enyeart, and the Escher and Katalyst String Quartets. Additionally, he has spent summers performing at AIMS in Graz, Austria, Schlern International Music Festival in Völs am Schlern, Italy, and as the principal cellist with the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra in Branson, Missouri.

A dedicated teacher, Mr. Cavazos maintains a private studio in Katy, Texas and frequently serves as a clinician at schools in Katy, Cypress, and Houston. His private students have earned spots in TMEA Honor, All-State, and All-Region Orchestras, have been accepted at summer music festivals such as the Brevard Music Center Summer Institute, the Eastern Music Festival, the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, and have been accepted at music schools such as the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the University of Texas, and the University of North Texas. Additionally, Mr. Cavazos is the founder and director of the Katy Cello Choir in Katy, Texas, and has taught at the University of St. Thomas Music Preparatory School, the Houston Youth Symphony Coda Program, the Conroe Symphony Youth Orchestra in Conroe, Texas, and the Huntsville Youth Orchestra in Huntsville, Texas.
