By taking lessons, students and parents agree to abide by the following policies. Any student who fails to abide by these policies may be dismissed from the studio.

Tuition

Parents will receive an invoice on the first day of the month for all lessons that month. Cash, check, or online payment with either a credit card or via Zelle or Venmo are all acceptable forms of payment. Payment must be made no later than a student's 2nd lesson of the month.

Location

Lessons take place either online via FaceTime, Zoom, Skype, or in person at my apartment. Please contact me for my address.

Attendance

Lessons occur once per week. Attendance is recorded according to the following criteria:

Present: The student is in attendance and will be billed for one lesson.

Excused: The student is excused from their lesson and will not be billed. In order to be excused, the student must cancel no less than 24 hours before the start of their lesson and must email or text me in order for their absence to be excused. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance due to emergencies will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Unexcused: The student is absent without giving notification more than 24 hours in advance. Parents will be billed for all unexcused lessons. Students who are consistently considered unexcused will be dismissed from the studio.

Make-up and extra lessons may take place at a time that is mutually agreeable for both student and teacher. Parents will not be billed for lessons which I must cancel.

Books and Other Materials

Students may be asked to order new books as they advance. These books may include scale books, etude books, method books, repertoire, and theory books. Students are required to obtain books in a timely manner.

Practicing

All students are required to practice daily. As students advance, they are expected to increase the amount of time they practice. As a general rule, all students should practice no less than the length of their lessons every day. Lessons and orchestra rehearsals do not count towards practice time.

Recitals

At least one studio recital will take place every semester. Although not required, students are strongly encouraged to perform a solo. Students who participate in studio recitals will be billed a small fee to help pay for the venue and accompanist.

Music History and Theory Assignments

Students who are studying pieces by major composers may be asked to submit writing assignments. Students who need theory exercise will be assigned online lessons and exercises from www.musictheory.net and/or be required to submit assignments from a theory textbook. All writing and theoretical assignments must be completed in a timely manner.

Policies are subject to change.
